Started of in village of Halton, then followed Grand Union Canal along hoping to cut up towards hill as shown on maps, however MoD property precluded this, eventually found way through industrial estate marked 'no right of way, trespassers will be prosecuted' but workers ok and gave me some local knowledge about hills but no knowledge of Haddington Hill. continued to main road and then found Wendover Woods. Climbed in general direction using phone GPS as guide, came across several dog walkers, again nobody heard of Haddington Hill but reconed I was heading for highest point in Chilterns. Eventually came to clearing, road and cafe!, lovely spot and manged bottle of water and sticky biscuit. Easy walk to high point well marked and confirmed correct height of 267m so content this was Haddington Hill. Returned to car by most direct route. |
Background
This Challenge was formed whilst recovering from a bad burst appendix, a time when I could not run, swim or do anything other than walk, so what walking challenges could I dream up - I know climb the highest point in each county of England
